Experience Panasonic TX-55DX600B excellent price but does not support HDR

In the Panasonic 4K TV series launched in 2016, the positioning of the TX-55DX600 is relatively low. Therefore, it does not support HDR playback, but the price is only 940 pounds (approximately RMB 8792), which is a very cost-effective way.

Design and function

The 55-inch screen looks beautiful, and the silver-tone border is visually very narrow, consistent with current trends. Compared with other products of the company, the material used in the body of the TX-55DX600 gives a strong plastic feel.

Only two of the HDMI ports provided by this product support 4K content. Only one of the two USB ports is compatible with the USB 3.0 standard. Through the network cable or Wi-Fi, the TX-55DX600 can be connected to the network to obtain program content from DLNA devices or Panasonic's online smart services. This content is processed through the product's Firefox OS smart TV system.

However, in terms of application development, Firefox OS can not be compared with the Android TV platform, which is more common in Sony and Philips TV. Of course, for a TV product, this is not necessarily a bad thing. After all, the application of Ningxia is perhaps more capable of allowing consumers to focus on the characteristics of the product itself. For example, Firefox OS does not provide consumers with a large number of application options, but the 4K version of mainstream video applications can still be found.

Although the TX-55DX600 does not support HDR playback, it uses one of Panasonic's "highest brightness" panels, which is wider than the color gamut supported by ordinary LCD TVs. However, this can only bring about slight improvements in brightness and color, which still cannot be compared with other high-end HDR products launched this year.

The TX-55DX600 is also not equipped with a 4K Studio Master HCX or HCX+ processor, which is more common in Panasonic's other high-end TV products introduced during the year. The product also did not provide any support for 3D content, and the direct-fired LED lighting engine failed to fully cooperate with the local dimming system to exert optimal effects.

All of the above limitations did not affect the price/performance of this product. Of course, it is worth pointing out that the TV uses an IPS LCD panel, and the VA panel, which is more common in terms of viewing angle, has a certain degree of problems, and its performance in contrast is much inferior. The impact of the latter problem will increase with each passing day, because the brightness that people use to watch TV at present is getting higher and higher.

Settings

The price of the TX-55DX600B is relatively low, but it provides a very rich set of tools for picture quality. After personal experience, the testers made the following suggestions: Do not adjust the IFC motion compensation processing option to “minimum” or more; if an external Ultra High Definition Blu-ray player is attached, be sure to set the HDMI output to mode 2; watch a high level When you are in HD and 4K programs, you must turn off the noise reduction system to avoid the screen being too soft. The product provides an adaptive backlight function. Tuning to “Medium” or “High” can improve the display of black areas on the screen.

Quality

The TX-55DX600B failed to show a high level of image quality. The main problem was focused on the dark screen display. The IPS panel also has slightly poorer backlight control performance than the VA panel, so the black scene looks more grayish.

Only by setting the backlight output level to be adjusted, the performance of the black level and the dark tone will be better, but this will also be a drag on the detail level when the TV renders a dark scene.

When it comes to presenting dark and light-colored scenes on the same screen, the picture quality of the TX-55DX600B does not look so subtle, especially when it comes to character color. The character looks like it came out of the wax museum, even if it is The same is true for watching 4K program sources. In moving scenes, moving objects appear to appear blurred or vibrating, especially when viewing native 4K program sources.

Sound quality

Since the TX-55DX600 is slightly heavier than other high-end TVs of the year, its performance in sound is even better.

The volume of the product is very large, and at the same time it can keep the vocal clarity clear, sounding like the orientation from the screen. In general, it presents quite rich details, and the midrange is also very open, at least in this price range of products is quite outstanding, and fully masked the lack of low-frequency. Loudspeakers will occasionally make noise only when heavy bass is present.

Other considerations

Panasonic did not equip the TX-55DX600 with a smart remote controller. Instead, it was a full-size, traditional button-based remote control, but its layout was very much in line with the user's past habits, and designed a special button for Netflix.

At this point, people may be puzzled, that is: For a 4K TV that does not support HDR, is it necessary to start? After all, many popular online video services and Ultra High Definition Blu-ray players have begun to support HDR programs. In fact, from the budget aspect, there are still reasons to start, after all, really able to show good HDR TV programs are currently very expensive.

One last point to mention is that this TV has a certain amount of input delay, which is a serious problem for professional gamers.

in conclusion

The TX-55DX600 has an excellent design and is relatively inexpensive for a large-screen TV. The randomly-launched Firefox OS smart TV system is also very easy to use. The problem with this product is mainly focused on poor contrast and color accuracy. In addition, moving objects appear blurry when presenting motion pictures. In fact, because of its use of IPS panels, this TV is by no means the best choice even for products with similar price ranges.

For now, Samsung’s 4K TV products that do not support HDR perform better at least in terms of picture quality. For those users who are more likely to choose Panasonic, consider the DX750 series. Although it is not optimal in dealing with HDR, it is at least a lot stronger than the TX-55DX600, and the price has not improved too much.
