The world's first 802.11n chip announces support for WAPI

Atheros released many 802.11n chips in Beijing yesterday, including: Align AR9285 and AR9271 chips designed for laptops and routers; AR6003 chips designed for mobile phones and mobile terminals; and AR922x and AR928x designed for PCs and broadband CPE chip.

Qin Zhiqiang, Secretary-General of the WAPI Industry Alliance, told NetEase Technology, "There are currently 80-90 models of 802.11 system chips supporting WAPI, and more than 1,000 WAPI mobile terminal models including mobile phones, but most of the existing chips support 802.11b / g, and Atheros ’802.11n series chips are the first in the world to fully support the WAPI standard in hardware."

The wireless 802.11 standard defined by IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is the current universal standard for wireless local area networks. The 802.11 standard, which mainly operates in the 2.4G Hz frequency band, includes multiple sub-standards, among which the fastest connection speed of mainstream 802.11b / g in the current market only supports 54Mbps, while 802.11n reaches a maximum of 300Mbps.
