UL safety application accounted for more than half of LED lighting

According to Taiwan media reports, Yu Jia International Security Certification (UL) Taiwan General Manager Tang Jiade said on the 7th that at present, more than half of the lighting is light-emitting diode (LED) lighting, which is a multiple increase over the past. Future lighting is moving towards LED lighting. He believes that LED will be the third industrial revolution in the lighting industry.

UL and ITRI have jointly completed the world's first AC LED light source semi-finished products and finished products, and obtained the North American market certification. This will help Taiwan's LED industry to synchronize with international safety regulations from the design front end of the product and gain the dominant position in global specifications.

Governments have actively developed LED-related safety regulations in an attempt to dominate market specifications. Tang Jiade said that UL cooperated with ITRI to exchange electric LED design prototypes and develop Yang Jie technology with outstanding LED street lights. Recently, with UL assistance, it has adjusted the structure for product safety and successfully passed UL certification. A case validated by the LED street light in the North American market.

According to the survey of the Industrial Research Institute, Taiwan’s LED market share is 26% in the world, second only to Japan. Taiwan’s total LED output value is 74 billion yuan this year, an increase of nearly 20% compared with last year, which is better than the global annual growth rate of 15.7. %, showing that LED is a potential industry in Taiwan.

Tang Jiade emphasized that due to the characteristics of environmental protection, energy saving and long life, the LED lighting trend is very obvious. The development of the lighting industry will be the third industrial revolution.

Due to differences in product structure, current luminaire safety verification specifications cannot be applied to LED light source products.

Tang Jiade said that in 2005, UL drafted the ULSubject 8750 draft for safety standards for LED modules and lighting fixtures, and standardized LED products as light sources to provide follow-up luminaire verification specifications for the production of LED lamps.

UL cooperated with ITRI to evaluate the safety evaluation of the AC LED design prototype of the Institute of Technology with the draft of ULSubject 8750, and provided some suggestions of the Institute of Engineering for heat dissipation and brightness, etc., to assist in the standardization of the design prototype as soon as possible.

ULSubject 8750 is a draft standard developed by UL based on the development and verification of general lighting equipment safety standards and related research and development units to study the characteristics of LED products.

If published as a formal standard, the ULSubject 8750 draft will become the basis for standardization of LED products and the safety certification specification that must be passed when the industry sells LED products to North America.

UL's LED safety verification service is applicable to all types of LED main light sources, including lamps, bulbs, and drives.
