Philips builds the world's first full LED office lighting

Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG) recently announced that Philips will light up the world's first office to fully adopt LED Lighting solutions. Located at 100 Champs Elysées in Paris, the office of Zhongli Insurance Company is a milestone in the history of lighting. This is the first time that LEDs have been fully used as functional office lighting, and this functional lighting has been combined with the same LED lighting and ambient lighting.

The design of the office building was brought by architect Anthony Besso, who was commissioned by Zhongli Insurance to design a window of LED innovation. LED lighting solutions can improve people's quality of life, and give designers more flexibility in space layout and ceiling design to avoid relying too much on fluorescent lighting. Since the LED has a very long service life, maintenance costs are also minimized.

Throughout the office space, functional lighting is achieved through 442 fixtures integrated into the 600X600 specular ceiling. Each set of lamps contains 12 or 16 2.6 watt high power LEDs depending on the location of the office space. This design allows the working surface to have an average illumination of 500 lux and an overall average illumination of 300 lux. Philips has designed a careful optical system for this luminaire. In addition, embedded SpotLed 3 K2 luminaires are used in the corridor. Each luminaire contains 3 LUXEON high-power LEDs. The overall lighting solution meets lighting standards in terms of energy consumption, illumination and visual comfort.

Regarding LED scene lighting, Zhongli Insurance Company chose LED-based variable color scheme. By illuminating the glass walls of the top two floors, the exterior world is shown the image of the building, like a lighthouse in the night sky.

In the use of dynamic color LED to set the scene, create atmosphere and illuminate the landmark project, we have been leading the world by continuously developing the potential of LED technology, said Thierry Brown Nikebeck, general manager of Philips Lighting France. We have recently released a large number of LED applications in general lighting, and today is the day when LEDs enter the field of general office lighting. This exciting day marks the LED is entering the heart of the lighting industry. It will undoubtedly accelerate the development of solid-state lighting applications.

Driven by the entry of LEDs into general lighting, we expect the global LED lighting market to grow at a rate of more than 30% per year, from approximately 700 million euros last year to 1.5 billion euros in 2010.

Philips and LED

In the past few years, Philips has acquired a number of companies to strengthen its position in solid-state lighting. The first is Lumileds, then TIR, Color Kinetics, Partners and Lighting, and Genlyte. With the completion of these acquisitions, Philips now covers the entire solid-state lighting value chain and is at the forefront of this new technology, becoming the industry leader.
