Diodes Incorporated, a leading provider of semiconductor solutions for the consumer electronics, home appliance, and industrial equipment markets, has introduced a new family of non-contact switch micropower Hall effect sensors. This series includes the AH8500, AH8501, AH8502, and AH8503, offering high performance with ultra-low power consumption.
These sensors operate within a supply voltage range of 1.6V to 3.6V and can detect magnetic fields up to ±400G. Their advanced operating modes and sampling rates are designed to minimize current consumption, reaching micropower levels. The AH8500 and AH8501 feature an enable pin that consumes just 9μA in sleep mode, which is the default setting. At a standard sampling rate of 20Hz, these devices typically consume only 12μA, while at their maximum sampling rate of 7.14kHz, the current increases to 1.16mA.
The AH8502 and AH8503 also support control pins, allowing them to achieve a sampling rate of 24Hz in the default mode with a current consumption of 13μA. When the sampling rate is increased to 7.14kHz via the control pin, the current consumption remains at 1.16mA, making them ideal for applications requiring dynamic performance adjustments.
The AH8501 and AH8503 stand out for their precise gain adjustment, which minimizes sample-to-sample variability and reduces the need for extensive sensor calibration. Both models offer a sensitivity accuracy of 3% at room temperature and a zero offset of less than 1% of the supply voltage, ensuring reliable and consistent performance across various conditions.
Designed for high linearity, this sensor family includes internal analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, providing a typical linear range of over 99.7%. This ensures accurate readings even under varying magnetic field conditions. Additionally, the low input reference noise—less than 0.36G—helps minimize output ripple, resulting in cleaner and more stable signals.
These sensors provide a wide sensitivity range from 2.25mV/G to 4.12mV/G across the full 1.6V to 3.6V operating voltage range. This flexibility allows designers to either extend the detection range or use weaker magnetic fields, reducing system costs. The chopper-stabilized architecture and low temperature coefficient further enhance stability by minimizing output bias and internal stress effects, ensuring consistent performance across a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
Additionally, the devices are equipped with a high electrostatic discharge (ESD) capability of 6kV, making them suitable for harsh environments. The new product line is available in an ultra-compact U-DFN2020-6 package, ideal for proximity, position, and trip-level detection applications. The AH8500 and AH8502 come in standard accuracy versions, while the AH8501 and AH8503 offer high-precision variants. All models are available in quantities of 10,000.
