Diodes Hall sensors reduce power consumption and increase accuracy

Diodes Incorporated has introduced a new series of micropower linear Hall effect sensors designed for portable consumer electronics, home appliances, and industrial equipment. The AH8500, AH8501, AH8502, and AH8503 are part of this innovative family, offering high performance with low power consumption. These sensors are ideal for applications that require precise magnetic field detection while maintaining energy efficiency. The AH8500 and AH8501 feature an enable pin that allows the device to operate in sleep mode with a current consumption of just 9μA. Under normal operation, they consume only 12μA at a sampling rate of 20Hz, and up to 1.16mA when the sampling rate increases to 7.14kHz. The AH8502 and AH8503, on the other hand, offer a default sampling rate of 24Hz with a current draw of 13μA, which can be increased to 1.16mA when the sampling rate is raised to 7.14kHz. The AH8501 and AH8503 are known for their high accuracy, with a gain adjustment that minimizes sample-to-sample variation and reduces the need for frequent calibration. They boast a sensitivity accuracy of 3% at room temperature and a zero offset of less than 1% of the supply voltage. This makes them suitable for applications where precision is critical. These sensors integrate an internal analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and digital-to-analog converter (DAC), ensuring a linear range of over 99.7%. This helps maintain high linearity even under varying magnetic field conditions. Additionally, the low input reference noise of less than 0.36G ensures minimal output ripple, making these devices ideal for sensitive applications. With a sensitivity range from 2.25mV/G to 4.12mV/G across the 1.6V to 3.6V operating voltage range, the AH8500 series allows designers to either extend the magnetic field detection range or use weaker magnetic fields, reducing system cost. The chopper-stabilized architecture and low temperature coefficient help minimize output bias and internal stress, improving overall stability and robustness across a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The sensors also feature a high electrostatic discharge (ESD) capability of 6kV, ensuring reliable performance in harsh environments. They are available in an ultra-small U-DFN2020-6 package, making them suitable for compact designs in proximity, position, and trip detection applications. The standard accuracy versions, AH8500 and AH8502, as well as the high-precision models, AH8501 and AH8503, are available in quantities of 10,000.
