Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has recently introduced two new 100V N-channel TrenchFET power MOSFETs—SiR870DP and Si4190DY. These devices leverage Vishay’s innovative ThunderFET™ technology to deliver the lowest on-resistance in the industry for 100V MOSFETs operating at 4.5V. This advancement significantly enhances performance, especially in applications where efficiency and speed are critical.
The SiR870DP boasts an impressive on-resistance of 7.8mΩ at 4.5V, making it one of the most efficient options available. Even at 10V, its on-resistance remains impressively low at 6mΩ. Lower on-resistance translates into reduced conduction losses, which is essential for improving energy efficiency in green products and high-performance systems.
In terms of figure of merit (FOM), the SiR870DP achieves a remarkable 208 mΩ-nC at 4.5V, helping minimize both conduction and switching losses in high-frequency applications. The Si4190DY, designed for SO-8 packages, also delivers strong performance with 8.4mΩ at 4.5V and 12mΩ at 10V, along with FOM values of 340 mΩ-nC and 220 mΩ-nC respectively—both among the best in the industry.
These MOSFETs are ideal for primary-side switching and secondary-side synchronous rectification in isolated DC/DC power supplies, particularly for brick power and bus converter applications in telecommunications. Their ability to turn on at 4.5V makes them compatible with a wide range of PWM and gate drive ICs, offering designers greater flexibility.
Using a 5V-rated IC not only reduces gate drive losses but also simplifies the overall power supply design by eliminating the need for a separate 12V rail. This helps reduce complexity and cost while maintaining high performance.
Both the SiR870DP and Si4190DY have undergone 100% Rg and UIS testing, ensuring reliability and durability under demanding conditions. Additionally, they meet halogen-free standards set by IEC 61249-2-21 and are fully compliant with the RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC, making them suitable for environmentally conscious designs.
