The following is the circuit diagram of [TPS2480/81 function circuit and application circuit].
The TPS2480/81 is a hot-swap controller that integrates a positive voltage smart protection device along with an I2C current monitor. It's specifically designed to minimize in-application surges, offering robust protection for connected loads and FETs against overcurrent or short-circuit conditions. The device controls external N-channel MOSFET switches and provides precise monitoring of voltage, current, and power via an I2C interface using a configurable 12-bit ADC. This allows for independent adjustment of power and current limits, ensuring the external MOSFET operates safely within its safe operating area (SOA).
In addition, the TPS2480/81 features a power good output, which can be used for sequencing and load fault indication. An external timer capacitor helps set the fault time, preventing dangerous system shutdowns during transient events.
