Recently, I'm working on a project where the customer requested both the program and quotation for a system using S7-315-2DP with ET200M modules, aiming for future expansion. The setup includes twelve SM (signal modules) with IM153-2 interface modules. I discovered that up to five active bus templates can be installed on an active rail. This led me to consider expanding the rack and how to connect signal modules from different racks within the ET200M system. A: Actually, the solution is quite straightforward. ET200M is an intelligent module that communicates with the S7-315-2DP via PROFIBUS DP fieldbus. In this configuration, the S7-315-2DP acts as the master station, while the remote ET200M modules function as slave stations. Communication is established through the PROFIBUS network. To configure the system, start by creating a new project in SIMATIC Manager. Open the hardware configuration, click on SIAMTIC300, expand RACK-300, and insert a rail. Place the S7-315-2DP in slot 2. Then, create a new PROFIBUS (1) network, set the master station address to "2", and add the required signal modules. Next, select the ET200M under the PROFIBUSDP catalog, double-click the IM153-2 interface module (choose the model based on your needs), and configure the ET200M as a slave. Set the slave address (e.g., "3") and insert the signal modules under the IM153-2 interface module. The ET200M module is similar to standard S7-300 CPU modules. You can insert the SMs in the same way as you would with a standard rack. On the ET200M interface module, the first slot is for the power module (optional), the second slot is for the IM153-2 interface module, the third slot is empty, and slots 4 to 11 can hold up to 8 signal modules. If you have more than 8 SMs, you can install another ET200M module under the same PROFIBUS (1) network, assigning it a different DP address (e.g., "4"), and place the remaining modules under it. The PROFIBUS wiring is simple: use PROFIBUS network cables and DP connectors to link the S7-315-2DP X2 port (DP port) with each ET200M module. Ensure the toggle switches on the IM153-2 modules match the DP addresses set during configuration. For the last ET200M module in the chain, set the end resistor (red switch) to "ON," while the middle ones should be "OFF." Based on your requirements, there's no need to expand the rack. Simply use two ET200M modules as DP slaves under the same PROFIBUS (1) network. The S7-315-2DP can support up to three DP slaves, which is sufficient for your current and future expansion needs.
