Obama visits Cree headquarters in the United States to strengthen LED and other industries

US President Barack Obama visited Cree's headquarters and factory in North Carolina on the afternoon of June 13, the United States. In his speech, Obama vowed to create more job opportunities and announced that he had invited former US President Clinton to lead the government’s job creation team. On the 13th, Obama’s job creation team proposed investing in new energy fields in order to create job opportunities.

At the same time, Obama said that Cree is taking the lead in creating clean energy jobs in the United States, and he hopes the United States will increase development in LED, solar, wind turbines, electric vehicles and other manufacturing areas. He also pointed out that the U.S. government has established the Better Buildings Initiative, which integrates energy-saving design into buildings and will not only create job opportunities, but also save companies 40 billion U.S. dollars in electricity bills each year.

At the same time, according to overseas media reports, Cree CEO Chuck Swoboda said that the price of LED bulbs is still too high, and the time for customers to recover costs is still too long. He also stated that the weak economic growth has led to the cooling of investment in infrastructure construction, which is one of the reasons for the slowing down of the popularity of LED in the United States.

Swoboda said that Cree has recently introduced a product that can replace fluorescent lamps in commercial buildings. Compared to electricity savings from fluorescent lamps, customers need 1-2 years to recover costs, which is less than an average of 2-3 years. However, only one product is still not enough. He believes that there must be thousands of similar products in order to drive market penetration. The industry needs more innovative products than those that have better light bulbs.
