IEK: Q3 Semiconductor Growth Decreases OEM Testing Will Still Be in Short Supply

According to the Industrial Technology Institute’s IEKITIS plan for the semiconductor industry in the second half of the industry outlook assessment, in the second half of 2009, the global semiconductor industry was affected by the national government’s economic revitalization program, resulting in a significant increase in global semiconductor sales compared to the first half of 2009. By the first half of 2010, the pace of global economic recovery was better than expected, coupled with insufficient capacity, which also made sales performance brighter in the first half of the year. However, due to the high base period, the annual growth rate and seasonality in the third quarter are estimated. The growth rate will be lower than in the past few quarters.

However, IEK also emphasized that although the strength of industrial growth will slow down, but the supply of foundry and packaging and testing capacity will continue to be insufficient, which can be confirmed by the domestic semiconductor manufacturers have announced a substantial increase in capital expenditure.

Regarding the performance of the semiconductor sub-industry, according to the IEK study, as Taiwan's IC design industry has gradually entered the cycle of steady growth, the third and fourth quarter will remain the traditional peak season. It is estimated that the output value of Taiwan's IC design industry in Q3 2010 may reach 1,375 Billion yuan, a quarter growth of 15%. It is expected that in the future driven by demand from PCs, NBs, LCDTVs, and mobile phones, Taiwan’s IC design industry will reach NT$503.2 billion in 2010, an increase of 30.4% year-on-year, an increase far exceeding that of 2009. 2.9%.

In the IC manufacturing sector, since the base period in the first half of 2010 was already high, and since the third quarter of last year, the output value of the Q3 Taiwanese IC manufacturing industry was estimated to reach 229 billion yuan. 5.2%, expected in the future driven by the demand for terminal 3C products, Taiwan's IC manufacturing industry in 2010 will reach an output value of 869.8 billion yuan, annual growth is still 50.8%.

In the IC packaging and testing industry, it is estimated that the Q3 packaging and testing industry will enter the traditional peak season, but the base period in the first half of the year has been boosted, and the packaging and testing industry revenue will grow by only 5% and 6.2% respectively over Q2. The output value of the packaging and testing industry reached 289.6 billion yuan and 130.6 billion yuan respectively, which grew to 45.1% and 49.1% respectively.
