Fingerprint recognition will be the mainstream technology of smart phones in the future

On December 5, Sweden ’s FingerprintCards is ambitiously hoping to sell identification technology to the world ’s largest smartphone manufacturers. It is likely to follow Apple ’s example and provide fingerprint recognition technology from next year. The company believes that fingerprint recognition will become the mainstream technology for smartphones.

Apple launched the first smartphone iPhone5S with fingerprint identity touch sensor in September, supported by Apple's AuthenTec company. Therefore, the Swedish FingerprintCards company hopes to sell its fingerprint sensor to other large mobile phone manufacturers, such as Samsung, LG Electronics and Huawei.

John, CEO of FingerprintCards. Kassom said that I think at least seven or eight manufacturers will launch smartphones with fingerprint sensors in 2014. FingerprintCards hopes to rely on its touch fingerprint sensor announced last week to win more contracts. This sensor can be used in Android smartphones and tablets and Windows operating systems.

Kassom expects Samsung, the world's largest smartphone manufacturer, to launch at least one smartphone with a touch fingerprint sensor next year. FingerprintCards is one of the few experts in touch sensing technology in the world. Opponent AuthenTec has been acquired by Apple, while Validity was acquired by Synaptics in October.

FingerprintCards currently provides cheap fingerprint scanning technology for Fujitsu in Japan, Pantech in South Korea and Konka in China. The company predicts that in 2014 revenue will increase five-fold to 500 million Swedish kronor (77 million US dollars), and its stock price has risen more than 600% in the past year.

Earlier, FingerprintCards' revenue was mainly from selling fingerprint security products to Chinese banks. But in the third quarter of this year, more than 50% of operating income came from mobile phones. The company expects to capture 60% of the fingerprint sensor market in the smartphone market in 2014 and 2015, excluding Apple ’s smartphones.

The smartphone market is growing rapidly. Global smartphone shipments are expected to increase by 40% this year, more than 1 billion over the same period last year. Last year, Apple Computer bought the fingerprint sensor development company AuthenTec for $ 356 million as a sign that the technology will eventually become mainstream.
