Apple launched the first smartphone iPhone5S with fingerprint identity touch sensor in September, supported by Apple's AuthenTec company. Earlier, FingerprintCards' revenue was mainly from selling fingerprint security products to Chinese banks. But in the third quarter of this year, more than 50% of operating income came from mobile phones. The company expects to capture 60% of the fingerprint sensor market in the smartphone market in 2014 and 2015, excluding Apple ’s smartphones.
The smartphone market is growing rapidly. Global smartphone shipments are expected to increase by 40% this year, more than 1 billion over the same period last year. Last year, Apple Computer bought the fingerprint sensor development company AuthenTec for $ 356 million as a sign that the technology will eventually become mainstream.
