Types of mainstream LCD panels

Types of mainstream LCD panels

At present, there are three major types of panel types that occupy mainstream products: VA, IPS and TN. They all have their own liquid crystal materials and panel structures, and their advantages and disadvantages are not the same!

VA type: VA type LCD panel is widely used in current display products. 16.7M color and large viewing angle are its most obvious technical characteristics. At present, VA type panel is divided into two types, one is MVA type, the other The species is PVA type. Among them, MVA is a panel type led by Fujitsu. Its full name is (MulTI-domain VerTIcal Alignment), which is a multi-quadrant vertical alignment technology. It uses protrusions to make the liquid crystal static, not a traditional upright type, but a certain angle of static; when a voltage is applied to change the liquid crystal molecules to a level to let the backlight pass through, it is faster, so that the display time can be greatly reduced. Also because the protrusions change the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules, the viewing angle is wider. The increase in viewing angle can reach more than 160 degrees, and the response time is shortened to less than 20ms.

The PVA type is a panel type introduced by Samsung. It has been further developed and improved on the basis of Fujitsu MVA panels. It is a vertical image adjustment technology, which directly changes the structure of the liquid crystal cell and greatly improves the display performance. Can get better brightness output and contrast than MVA. In addition, on the basis of these two types, two types of improved S-PVA and P-MVA panels have been extended. The technology development is more upward, the viewing angle can reach 170 degrees, and the response time is controlled within 20 milliseconds ( Using Overdrive speed up to 8ms GTG), and the contrast can easily exceed the high level of 700: 1, most of Samsung ’s products are PVA LCD panels.

IPS type: It is also the current main type of liquid crystal panel. It was introduced by Hitachi, Japan in 2001. The liquid crystal molecule plane switching method is used to improve the viewing angle. The use of spatial thickness, friction strength and effective use of changes in horizontal electric field drive make liquid crystal molecules do The maximum plane rotation angle increases the viewing angle; there is no need to add an additional compensation film in the manufacture of goods, and the visual contrast is also very high. The viewing angle can be improved to 160 degrees, and the response time is shortened to less than 40ms. Therefore, the IPS type LCD panel has the advantages of large viewing angle and delicate color, and looks more transparent, but the slow response time and the difficulty of improving the contrast are also a relatively obvious shortcoming of this type of panel. IPS is the first generation IPS technology, which has achieved a good viewing angle. S-IPS is the second-generation IPS technology, and it introduces some new technologies to improve the grayscale reversal phenomenon of IPS mode at certain specific angles.

Its LG-Philips independent panel manufacturer is also a liquid crystal panel with IPS as its technical characteristics.

TN type: This type of LCD panel should be regarded as an entry-level and mid-range panel product. The most important thing is that it is affordable and inexpensive, and it has become a product of choice for many manufacturers. Technically, compared with the first two types of liquid crystal panels, the technical performance is slightly inferior, it can not display 16.7M brilliant colors, and the viewing angle is also subject to certain restrictions. The reason why this type of TN panel product is still the main force used by many manufacturers is because its output gray connection series is small, and the liquid crystal molecule deflection speed is fast, resulting in its response time is easy to increase. Most products within 8ms response time use TN liquid crystal panels.

It is particularly worth mentioning that there are LCD panels such as the ASV technology type used by SHARP and the ExtraView type introduced by NEC. The liquid crystal displays they produce are unique LCD panels of their own manufacturers, but relatively few other brands use them. In addition, large professional panel manufacturers such as AU Optronics and Chimei Optoelectronics in Taiwan are produced by purchasing their relative LCD panel technology from their professional technology manufacturers, which are then provided to display manufacturers.
