On October 17, 2016, Infineon Technologies introduced the "RC-E Series" of low-loss 1200V withstand voltage IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) supporting 18kHz to 40kHz switching frequency (in English). The new product integrates a body-saving diode for freewheeling on the IGBT, using the company's proprietary technology "TRENCHSTOP". Infineon said, "This product is optimized for applications with low switching frequency and low conduction losses. In addition, cost is also optimized for applications requiring low mid-range prices." Mainly used for induction heating (IH) cooking stoves, induction heating rice cookers and microwave ovens.
The new series has two products with different collector currents. They are "IHW15N120E1" with a maximum collector current of 15A at +100 °C and "IHW25N120E1" with 25A. The characteristics of the 15A product are as follows: the collector-emitter saturation voltage (VCE(sat)) is 1.50V (standard value), and the turn-off loss (Eoff) at the time of soft switching is 0.03mJ (standard value), and the body diode is positive. The voltage drop is 1.90V (standard value) and the forward current is 15A. The collector-emitter saturation voltage (VCE(sat)) of the 25A product is 1.50V (standard value), and the turn-off loss (Eoff) at the time of soft switching is 0.08mJ (standard value), and the forward voltage drop of the body diode It is 1.90V (standard value) and the forward current is 25A.
Low loss IGBT for 18?40kHz switching applications
According to reports, both products have reduced electromagnetic radiation noise (EMI). The collector-emitter saturation voltage (VCE(sat)) has a positive temperature coefficient and is easy to use in parallel. The package uses TO-247. The working joint temperature range is −40°+150°C. Samples and mass production are available for both products. The price is not public.
