Electronic enthusiasts eight o'clock: According to foreign media reports, Google (microblogging) said on Wednesday that the company is expected to receive the first wind power in the Norwegian Tellenes wind farm in early September.
The Tellenes wind farm has 50 generator sets with a total capacity of 160 MW. The wind farm is still under construction and will be Norway's largest wind farm and Google's largest wind farm in Europe.
A Google spokesperson said: "Once the wind farm is fully operational, we will immediately start buying electricity, which is expected to occur in early September."
Last year, Google signed a long-term agreement for 12 years to buy all of the wind farm's electricity production. Google has four European data centers in Finland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Ireland. The company said that the purchased wind power will be used to power one or more of its data centers.
Olav Rommetveit, a spokesman for wind farm equipment maker Zephyr, said that the first turbine of the Tellenes wind farm will start generating electricity next week, but Google won't get the first electricity.
Romit Witt said: "Google will not receive electricity immediately. It has signed a 12-year long-term exclusive contract that will begin to generate electricity after the wind farm begins commercial operation."
He added that the electricity produced by the latter will be sold at the Nord Power exchange before Google begins accepting the full production of the wind farm.
BlackRock, which provides equity financing for the project, confirmed that the first turbines will be commissioned next week and will begin selling electricity in a few days.
Swedish wind power company Aris will become the operator of the wind farm.
Google also acquired the future production of a small wind farm in Sweden, which is expected to begin operations in 2018, when Google will purchase renewable energy in Europe with a total installed capacity of 500 megawatts.
