Domestic LED costs are expected to decline

It is reported that yesterday morning, the first mass production MOCVD equipment scientific and technological achievement appraisal meeting organized by the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Department was held in Nanhai, Foshan. The device passed the review of scientific and technological achievements of 11 industry experts from institutions such as Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, and the Institute of Semiconductors of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Zheng Youyu, the head of the expert group and the academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that the equipment broke the previous situation where MOCVD was all dependent on imports, and LED product prices are expected to drop substantially. LED industry is currently one of the three major breakthroughs in the development of strategic emerging industries in Guangdong. An important reason why the price of LED products has remained high is that LED chip production equipment MOCVD imports are expensive.

"Our 37 production-type MOCVD equipment is priced at about 9.5 million, which is reduced by half compared with foreign import prices." Said Gan Zhiyin, a professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, as an expert in the project's research and development cooperation team. It is reported that the equipment was jointly developed by Guangdong Zhaoxin Group, Zhaoxin Semiconductor Equipment Corporation and Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Currently, there are 4 outsourcing manufacturers to Zhaoxin Semiconductor for trial.
