CSS Inc (Kyoto City, Kyoto City), which is engaged in the manufacture of LED lighting equipment, develops new papers from Tang Chang (Kyoto-ku, Kyoto, which is engaged in the production of Tang paper crafts), which has been in business for more than 380 years (from Chinese to Japanese pattern paper or imitation) Lighting fixtures. A new lighting fixture developed by combining the craftsmanship of the Edo period (17-19th century Edo period in Japan) with the latest lighting technology can make the light emitted by the LED shake like a candle. As part of the joint venture between industry and academia, it will be exhibited in London, England from 6th to 10th.

LEDs have longer lifespans, lower power consumption, and less heat than incandescent lamps, so there is the idea of using Tang paper to make lighting fixtures. Tang paper, which uses four patterns, such as big waves and red leaves, can be used to make various patterns in the woodcuts and papers (Japanese paper) from the Edo to Meiji era.

The lighting fixture is made into a cylindrical shape with a height of 40 cm and a diameter of 12 cm. There are 16 LEDs in the interior, and the orange light gives the feeling of candle light. “Combining traditional craftsmanship with the latest technology to present a new, harmonious charm,” says CSS Inc.
